Basics[]

The Melee, also known as the Knife, is a special melee weapon. It is a free weapon given to everyone, like the Pistol. Unlike the Pistol, the Melee is not a tool, and instead has a special key ("V" by default) used to activate it. It can be used while a tool is equipped. Any upgrades purchased on the knife do not apply to any other melee weapons.

WARNING FOR MELEE :

  1. Melee is the most punishing strategy in the game. Get ready to be up close and personal with zombies, that includes high damage and tanky zombies.
  2. You MUST know when to stop melee and change strategies, this will take memorization and practice.
  3. Auto clickers are very recommended for melee
  4. Melee requires a lot of perks, and this costs perk points, this means that you might waste perk points for something that you cant even use, so be careful.

Upgrades[]

Upgrade Description Effect Levels Cost
Quick Slash Increases the speed you can swing your blade. 33% Attack Speed 1 $2,000
Sharpened Blade Increases the damage of your melee attack. 2x Damage 2 $3,000 $6,000
Golden Blade Increases the money you get from kills. Kill Money +20 1 $200
Hungry Blade Regain health through dealing damage. Lifesteal +3 1 $2,500
Wither Blade Adds wither damage to your melee attack. Wither 10% 1 $5,000

Strategies[]

Knife is only good if you have 6 or more perk slots. If you are going to use it, you must have good ping ( 50 - 150 recommended ), 6 or more perk slots, and melee perks that will go with it. Melee can be used on any platform, xbox, pc, or even mobile.

Melee is the definition of high risk, high reward.

  • The Melee has a rather short range, and as a result, one must get close to the enemy.
  • using melee is only recommended for players who can move correctly and stay alive, if you can pull it off it is undoubtedly the best
  • Any other melee weapon is much better than the Melee, even when upgraded.
  • The knife is not officially classified as a "weapon" according to the game's creator. This means perks which specifically mention weapons in their description will not work. This is why the knife will gain critical chance from the perk Lucky Charm, but not Concealed Carry as all other melee weapons can.
  • Use this with perk builds to farm wave 1 (Upgrade the Golden Knife for money).
  • Melee is only recommended for players who trust themselves enough to NOT die
  • 3rd or 1st person melee is up to personal preference
  • A basic 6 perk build for melee is : Life leech, Vampirism, Bloodthirst, juggernaut, ravage, reach.
  • On career mode, even without perk builds for melee, using a maxed melee can cheese wave 1-5, except for the boss on wave 5.
  • Melee is often used by bloodgod users who don't want using Piggy Bank for better perks on nightmare mode.

Trivia[]

  • It is much more common to refer to the Melee as the "Knife". In fact, calling it the "Melee" will likely result in you being perceived as strange.
  • The in-game model of the Melee is much shorter than its range.
  • The character uses the Melee with its left arm.
  • The Melee still works when an akimbo or a two-handed weapon is equipped.
  • Using the Melee will cancel reloads. Sprinting also does this.
    • The melee will not cancel grabbing ammo however.
    • Using the knife will not stop energy and lazer weapons from reloading
  • The Melee will emit a trail while swinging. The trail is stationary relative to the global frame of reference.
